Milano: knotted chair

To continue the current theme of furniture that evokes the natural...also at Milan this week: the last available knotted chairs by Marcel Wanders, displayed at Cappellini. Designed in 1996, the chairs were hand knotted with a thread of aramid and carbon fibres, impregnated with epoxy resin and hung to dry, allowing gravity to model the chair's form. I love them because they fuse something so tactile and tangible with high tech materials. And that they look as though the rope is suspended, and bearing weight without a frame: genius.

If I were there, and had the moola, I'd snap one up. HF.
