Cold comfort

I have a husband who plants hyacinths. And jonquils, ranunculas, pansies and sweet peas. Clever me.

These are the fruits of our latest purple batch, planted in May.

And two of my other favourite winter time flowers:

I love Hellebores' gentle, nodding heads and the way, like violets, they nestle in small spaces so unobtrusively.

Daphne! I stand by my claim of it being the best scent of any flower. Maybe it's all that poison (yes, like other pretties such as Lily of the Valley and Oleander, Daphne is full of the stuff) but the citrus and sweetness is a scent to behold. Not commonly used in florists, but all over the nurseries at the moment.
